No...they know he lost. it's not a mass delusion or group stupidity. It's worse.
It's the same flaw in American character that allowed for the genocide of native Americans, and the slavery of black Africans (along with all the other abominations in this country's history of slavery). When it comes down to it, when push comes to shove, Americans just want what they want, they believe they have the right to take what they want, and they're good at making excuses for why it's OK.
